From the time we’re old enough to walk, we're told to work hard, think for ourselves and above all else, never succumb to peer pressure.


Yet, as we grow older and less confident in ourselves and abilities, we find it's easier to simply follow along with what everyone else is doing – a phenomenon known as the “Herd Mentality.”

This “Herd Mentality" is obvious when it comes to the fashionable clothes we wear, the expensive cars we drive, the number of credit cards we use, the large homes we buy and where and how we invest our money.  Like clueless cows led to the slaughter - we simply follow what everyone else is doing.  The result is we all of a sudden wake up one day to discover that we're in debt and broke.

 

The same phenomenon is also apparent on how we are building our financial practice.  We are simply following what everyone else is doing... calling on our friends and family, cold calling businesses, running ads in the newspaper, using direct mail, purchasing leads or learning the latest, hot, new product or sales concept.    

If these prospecting and sales ideas actually worked for most people, then why are 90% of today's agents, advisors and planners struggling year in and year out to make a mediocre living.  

 

If you’re tired of struggling like the rest of the herd, then you must stop following the herd.

 

You are a unique individual.  You have your own personal strengths and weaknesses. 

 

And, yes I know it's scary to break away from the crowd and follow your own path.

As coaches who give advice to agents, advisors and planners every day, we are as guilty as anyone out there who tries to offer opinions of what you “should” do.

The fact is, at worst people do not have any idea what will work for you, and at best they can only rely on their own experience.  Certainly we can give you the benefit of what we have learned through 28 years of experience working with some of the very best producers and trainers in this industry.  But, you still have to work out what will work for you.

We are learning new things every day.  Some of these things still take us by surprise.  We believe you can learn something of value from every person you meet.  Your job is to not blindly accept what you are told, but to gather it, sort it, study it and then apply it in your own unique way.

Work out the approaches that suit you best, that fit what you are trying to achieve and how.  Which ideas resonate with you and enthuse you?  Separate out those ideas that leave you cold.

Your journey to success (or failure) is yours and yours alone.  But, you can learn about possible pot holes and obstacles to avoid from the people who have traveled a path similar to the one you are following.

The Quickest, Most Effective
and Least Expensive Way
to Generate Leads

 

One of the quickest, most effective and least expensive ways for you to generate a consistent flow of high quality sales leads is to offer a Free Educational Workshop every month.

 

If I were to start over in a new area, with no connections, no clients, no friends, no family and no acquaintances, it's what I would do to get off to the quickest start possible.

 

I would find a hungry independent P&C Agency, Mortgage Broker, Attorney, CPA, Doctor or some other professional and form a Joint Venture with them. I would get them to invite their best clients to my free workshop.

 

And, I would also look to be a guest speaker for local associations, civic and religious groups.

 

Obviously, if I were not in a new area I would invite everyone I know to my free workshop. And, the price of admission is to bring a friend.

Discover What Your
Prospects Want!

 

If you want to close more sales, then have a genuine conversation with your prospect. You'll discover what it is that they really want.  The problem is that most people don't know what they want.  Or, they have trouble expressing it.  Some people know what they want but they're unsure how to get it.

 

And, that's where you come in.

 

By asking pertinent questions and paying attention (listening) to their answers, you can discover a lot about your prospect. Then, you can help guide them to getting what they want. That's the role you fill as an advisor and that's how you keep customers coming back.

 

Every business has a niche to fill.  What is it that you do the best?  Who will benefit the most from that service? 

 

Learn to "pick your battles".  Choose to serve the customers who are the best fit for what you do well!  And, it starts by you knowing what you do the best.
