During our event, John Stewart, the owner of a P&C Insurance Agency, located in Georgia, briefly shared his story with the other attendees. In 1993, John had joined the A.L. Williams organization, which was started here in Atlanta, Georgia. (Now Primerica) For eight years he worked long hours selling term insurance and trying to recruit people to the A.L. Williams organization. Still only making a mediocre living and watching the people above him grow rich on his efforts, he decided seek another opportunity. In 2003, John joined an P&C Insurance Company and he began his new career selling home owners and auto insurance. Here is what John told the boot camp attendees... "Over the past 8 years, I've qualified and attended many of the company's prestigious sales conferences, however I was barely making the money I needed to take my family to them." "In the past 6 years, I've spent almost $10,000 on additional training and programs trying to learn how to maximize my earning potential. For example; In 2006, I paid the $7,000 to attend Douglas Andrew's Missed Fortune Training. A few months later, I held my first 'Missed Fortune' Seminar, following Mr. Andrew's system. I had 60 people sign up and 30 people attend. I ended up spending over $5,000 on the event and I didn't close one sale. While some of the training I've received has produced some positive results, I still wasn't making the income my family needed." "Then, a while back I found the Insurance Pro Shop and signed up for their weekly newsletters and started applying some of their techniques, and they worked. So, nine months months ago, I decided to visit with them to meet Lew and Jeremy. After meeting them, I decided to purchase their Found Money Management System and their Fact Finding DVDs. Sales Tips...
This is one of the most blatant sales mistakes that I see advisors make! The advisor hears the prospect express a need that can easily be met with their company's products and services and he/she immediately offers to meet the need. Yes, I know, it's very difficult not to respond to a burning need. However, offering solutions to problems before listening to a prospect's complete situation will have an adverse effect on any sales presentation, or prospecting call. You must listen to... ALL of the needs the prospect may have, then try to extract the ones he/she is really passionate about solving. In other words, shut up and ask questions to clarify the need and to turn that need into a want! Present your solutions and benefits later when they have the most emotional impact!
